A Fresh Look at Reaching Out

What does sharing the Good News mean to you? Does it mean showing the
love of Jesus to others? Does it mean meeting people where they are and
helping them know God better? Does it mean inviting them in and sharing
the journey? If you answered yes to any of these questions you have
probably also had these feelings: “I couldn’t do that,” “I don’t know
how to go about it,” “I wish they had a class to teach me how.”

Rev. Vusi and Malindi Mkhungo
Kensington United Church,
Johannesburg, South Africa
It was on January 15, 1990 that a new congregation was born. This
was as result. This was after long discussion between the St Andrews
Presbyterian Church and Moffat Memorial Congregational Church (this of
course included the two denominations: Presbyterian Church in SA and
United Congregational Church in SA). This was necessitated by the
dwindling numbers and therefore financials as people were moving
towards the more affluent parts of Johannesburg. Each of the two
congregations having its own history and pilgrimage which helped in
forming a new culture of which Kensington United Church is known for.

Morris Elementary
Weekend Food Bags for Students
Join in This Ongoing Effort!
Thanks to everyone who
has contributed food for the food sacks for children at Morris
Elementary. This program will continue through the summer! You may
bring these things to the box as you come into the Educational building
by the office.
Morris Elementary provides many of their students, who are on
the
free lunch
program, with food bags over the weekends. This food helps to make sure
the students get the nourishment they need. The food is supplied by
many of Morris' faith and business partners. These partners make a full
school year commitment. First Methodist Church supplies more
than 80
bags per week. Faith will be teaming with First to support their
ministry efforts. Here
is a list of suggested items:

Faith Reach Update!

Faith Outreach 2010
The
restructuring of Faith’s outreach
website to align more closely with the outreach budget is complete!
The Outreach Committee feels this is an important step for several
reasons.
- It significantly increases the transparency and accountability of
the committee’s management of the offerings entrusted to it.
- It
provides, in one easily accessible location, the background information
for each of these outreach areas budgeted for this year.
- It
provides information that is important not only for Faith members to
discern where God might be leading them to participate, but also to
visitors and seekers trying to determine if Faith Church will be their
new church home.
- Given our recent changes in demographics and
resources it provides a much needed snapshot of where our outreach
areas are as we discern what those areas should be in the future.
Check out the "Budget Backgrounds"
icon to your upper left.
However, outreach and mission are not
about budget alone ...
Please see the Faith
Reach Blog for more on this
story
and how you can help shape the future of Faith's outreach and mission!
